ASHRAE INDIA CHAPTER

ASHRAE India Chapter

The ASHRAE India Chapter was approved by the Society in the Atlanta, Georgia Meeting on Feb. 15, 1990. Mr.David S. Butler, ASHRAE President, inaugurated the Chapter on March 29, 1990. This was the first Indian Chapter and hence members of the Chapter were from all over India.

The first Chapter President was Dr. Prem C Jain. Some key members who founded the chapter are Mr. M. M. Pande, Mr. R. V. Simha, and Mr. V. K. Wadhwa.

ASHRAE India Chapter became part of Region X in the society year 1992-93 and became part of Region at Large in 2001-2002.

The Chapter under its Sustainability Activity installed a 5kw solar power plant at a remote village in Uttrakhand, India, and received recognition from the Society for the activity.

Key Milestones and Developments of India Chapter

  • All India Chapter (AIC), reports 30,688 PAOE Points in 2000-2001.
  • All student Chapter Branch with 107 members formed at YMCA, Faridabad, 2000-2001
  • Weather Data Phase II was completed in 2000-2001 and the Database was released in CD Form.
  • AIC Co-sponsored ACRECONF 2001, An International Conference.
  • Ashok Virmani elected as Member- Nominating of ASHRAE, 2001-2002.
  • AIC receives the Best Chapter Report at the RAL ARC, 2002-2003.
  • AIC receives the highest PAOE Points, 4822, in RAL, 2002-2003.
  • Mr. MM Pande receives 2004 Lincoln Bouillon Award for Membership Promotion.
  • AIC hosts the third RAL CRC in New Delhi 2004.
  • Deepak Pahwa receives Fellowship of ASHRAE Award, 2004-2005.
  • Dr. PC Jain receives Louise and Bill Holladay Distinguished Fellow Award, 2005-2006.
  • AIC Receives Best Chapter Report in RAL CRC 2005-2006.
  • AIC Receives High Honor Roll Award, highest point for CTTC, Student Activities, History and Citation at CRC Dubai 2005.
  • Dr. PC Jain receives John F James International Award and Distinguished Fifty Year Member
  • Award, 2008-2009.
  • Mr. Ashish Rakheja nominated as RAL ECC Chair, 2008-2009.
  • Mr. Richie Mittal nominated as RAL RVC Membership Promotion, 2008-2009.
  • Mr. Rajnish Joshi receives 2010 Lincoln Bouillon Award for Membership Promotion.
  • ASHRAE India Chapter signed MOU with ASHRAE Singapore Chapter during
  • ACRECONE, 2010.
  • AIC contributed US$ 8530 towards Research Promotion in the year 2010.
  • Chapter received Membership Promotion Award, Maximum contribution towards Research Promotion, Full circle Award, Chapter Appreciation Certificate and Chapter Service Awards at CRC-2010 in Cairo, Egypt.
  • Student Chapter chartered at FET, Faridabad on 25th March 2011.
  • Mr. Ashok Virmaniwas nominated as RAL DRC, 2011-2012 and Ashish Rakeja as RVC CTTC, 2011-2012

ASHRAE, founded in 1894, is a global society advancing human well-being through sustainable technology for the built environment. The Society and its members focus on building systems, energy efficiency, indoor air quality, refrigeration, and sustainability within the industry. Through research, standards writing, publishing, and continuing education, ASHRAE shapes tomorrow’s-built environment today. ASHRAE was formed as the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers by the merger in 1959 of the American Society of Heating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHAE) founded in 1894 and The American Society of Refrigerating Engineers (ASRE) founded in 1904.
In 2012, as part of a rebranding, ASHRAE began doing business as “ASHRAE” vs. using the full legal name of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers. The use of ASHRAE reflects the Society’s worldwide membership and that services will continue evolving globally.
